Which Floor do you have in your home?
Depending on the floor you are using the maintenance of a floor can vary a bit. So I have below given you the different methods of maintaining your wooden floor.
Laminate Flooring/ Laminate wooden flooring
Laminate floors are very easy to maintain. Being a laminate surface. Below is how you could clean and maintain your floors.
- Everyday Cleaning-This should be done everyday with a vacuum or a flipper mop. Any dust can be removed using the above two methods. Since it is a laminate floor a simple swipe of a mop on the floor is good to remove dust from floors just as on your table top.
- Removing stubborn stains-If you have spilled something on the floor or dropped some food and there are stubborn stains, dampen a clean cloth in warm water and squeeze out most of the water and use this semi damp mop/cloth to remove any stubborn stain. After the stain is removed from the laminate wooden flooring make sure you use a dry cloth to wipe off any water that has been left over.
- To avoid any dirt getting onto your floor-Use a good door mat at the entrance. This helps you to make sure any dirt or grit is left outside your home and this practice is generally good for your home cleanliness.
- Do not use any excessive water-Using excessive water like pouring water on to a floor is always dangerous for any wood floors. Hence make sure that this is not done. If you have accidentally spilled water ensure it is dried off immediately.
Solid Wood Flooring
Solid wood floors or timber floors being real wood are a little different to clean and maintain compared to laminate flooring.
- Everyday Cleaning-This should be done with a vacuum or a flipper mop. Any dust can be removed using the above two methods. Since it is a solid wood floor that is lacquered and pre finished a simple swipe of a mop floor is good to remove dust from floors just as on your table top. However ensure that neither your flipper mop or vacuum fixture has any broken edges or sharp edges that can scratch your wood surface.
- Removing stubborn stains-If you have spilled something on the floors or dropped some food and there are stubborn stains, dampen a clean cloth in warm water and squeeze out most of the water and use this semi damp mop/cloth to remove any stubborn stain. After the stain is removed from the solid wooden flooring make sure you use a dry cloth to wipe of any water that has been left over.
If you have accidentally spilled water ensure it is dried off immediately and if this is a solid wood floor please call your supplier to know more.
- If your surface is an oiled surface, you may want to ensure that you follow the manufacturers instructions to clean or maintain floors. As oiled surfaces need a little more care in general.
I hope this has cleared some of the doubts that often come to a customer's mind and makes it easier for you to choose the right flooring for your home!
